Echuca Wharf

WrightBarrat were engaged as part of the design team to design DDA compliant ramps to the northern and southern ends of the existing wharf. Ramps were required to provide access from the levels at the top of the river bank to the lower operating wharf level.

Ramps were designed for pedestrian access and for the transport of supplies to the paddle steamers. Emergency evacuation of injured people can also be carried out using a small motorised vehicle on the northern access ramp.

Design was required to be sympathetic the existing heritage listed wharf structure and any remnant remains of the larger wharf structures that had previously been demolished many decades ago.

Remedial strengthening works for were also required for a failing retaining wall to the north of the existing wharf. Works included installation of ground anchors through the wall attached to whalers and steel sheet piling to the base of the wall to protect it from river erosion and scouring, which was the likely cause of the initial failure.
